Visit to the South China Coast with Qing....(part 2) Motorcycles and Scooters

We've found the
Land of   Motorcycles and Scooters!
(We saw many of these modes of transportation in Brazil, Greece, and Russia; but then, we came to South China to "hit the jackpot!")

This woman gave us a ride to our hotel, in her 3-wheeled taxi, in the coastal city of Zhanjiang.

Another day,
another taxi!

These taxis became our most common form of transportation on the 4 islands that we visited.

Piling  in......
We were traveling with Qing, Sam, and Melody, along with Qing's parents; and this young couple, whom Qing met and befriended at a bus-stop.

View out the back of our motorcycle-taxi:

Plenty of women are riding here, which is hopefully a sign of confidence and more independence.
Riding 3-up (or with 4 or 5) is very, very common.  Rarely does anyone wear a helmet, either.

Most of the "bikes" on the islands are the working versions.

The motorcycles with side-cars reminded us of those in the markets along the Volga River in Russia:

This photo was taken on the more-developed island of Hainan.

Notice the high heels.....reminds us of the independent women in Brazil....

(This photo was taken in the city of Sanya.)

In the city of Beihai, motorcycles and scooters were a huge part of the social scene!!

Notice the covered parking area for motorcycles and scooters......in Beihai.

Most of the scooters were electric, needing to be plugged into a power source occasionally.

They were quiet and without detrimental emissions.     Great!  (Especially when we saw solar and wind being used as electric power sources.)

Too often, children were riding....without helmets, of course!

Notice the baby down and in front....And, only the father has a helmet.....???

On Weizhou Island, we got to rent a
125cc   motorcycle,
to explore the island from one end to the other.
**This reminded us of islands in Greece, which we explored similarly.

We had great fun, except for the pot-holes, and getting lost after dark.   (Try not to notice the too-typical pile of trash in the background.)
Qing and Sam also got to ride this motorcycle, as passengers.

We came across this scene five minutes into our independent ride!
