Chongqing City Life (part 9) ....The Guild Hall and another Cable Car

Fun in the City

Plenty of Chinese people love their (pet) dogs!  Notice the cute little shoes........Many have cute little clothes, too.  (We took this photo for Marie!)
We are always on the look-out for cool motorcycles, of course.

This is an EXTREMELY common sight in the city.....working hard to replace broken side-walk tiles.....

(I always think about how .....perhaps....someone should have installed the tiles more carefully the first time around!)

Another common sight:  People carrying very HEAVY  things.

Chris and Paula have taken long walks out into the neighborhoods, in all directions from our school.

Notice how any available space is used for gardening.     Notice, too, how the beautiful lettuce is "dried" in the hot sun.

Sometimes, there may not be room for a pool table within the building.  In that case, you may just have to move the table out onto the street.

We have a big, long list (48 places) of things to see and do during our year in Chongqing.  Gradually, we are working our way down through the list.

We spent one day exploring the tip of the peninsula.
We finally found the
Guangdong Guild Hall.

It had small stages throughout the complex, and was supposed to have Chinese Opera practice daily.....We never located THAT stage, though.
The old, historic site was popular for wedding photographs, however.

We always get excited when we find information in ENGLISH.

Rarely do we meet anyone, outside our school campus, who speaks English.  And, even within the campus, only the students and the actual ENGLISH teachers do!

At places like this, Chris enjoys his photography!

Chinese people are (generally) quite superstitious.  This is the "god of water-control."  He must be appealed to, if you want to survive spring flooding or have water for your crops.

More about water-control

There were rooms full of beautiful, preserved  calligraphy

at the Guild Hall.
We LOVE weekly calligraphy classes at our school, too.

After leaving the Guild Hall, we found a very poor section of Downtown Chongqing:

These boys (apparently) played in the Garbage Dump.  The girl below (in pink) was busy breaking glass bottles......

We took this Cable Car out over the slums, and then over the famous Yangtze River.
Do you find it a little difficult to see the city on the opposite side of the river?

And, here is the Yangtze River Youth Hostel.  I have been excited to visit the Great Yangtze River all my life!
