Huang Qing
has made this whole year of teaching in China possible. She has proven herself to be an outstanding teacher, both during her year in Battle Ground School District, America,
and here in her home-city of Chongqing, China.
Special students!
Jason and Michael (both musicians) have gone "out to lunch" with us more than any other students. Great fun!
On Wednesdays, we serve the students at the Baishi Yi campus, and always have cafeteria lunch with a group of them. Also, GREAT kids!
The administrator who has been in charge of our year here, has been
Ma Yanfei. She recently invited us to her apartment, for a home-made, traditional DUMPLING dinner.
Chris is enjoying teaching.
This student asked for help with his up-coming speech, for a school-wide competition. We especially appreciated speeches that focused on lower-carbon-lifestyles and concern for the problems of our planet.
Eager students:
On a very hot day this spring, the students of Number 8 High School had a big school-wide sports competition.
Two of our kids!
Spectators, grouped according to class, cheering on their classmates! |
Some students have become particularly special to us. We hope that someday, they can come to visit us in America.
There was also a singing competition this spring. This student sang the song: "You Raise Me Up",
as a tribute to his teachers (and most specifically, to Mr. O.)
We attended a soccer game in Chongqing, with Ma Yanfei and the exchange students. You'll notice that soccer is not very popular in this city! |
The fans......
Still, it was a good game.
Chongqing tied Beijing on the day we attended.
On another day, Yvonne (formerly "Gemma", who recently changed her name) and her parents, took us to visit Chongqing's Olympic stadium. It is mostly used for big music concerts, however.
The soccer game that day, was already "finished."
We watched Yvonne's tennis practice, at a nearby court. Her coach is wearing a University of Oregon sweatshirt, Derek and Heidi!!!!
(This reminded me of watching Derek practice tennis, at Green Meadows, in Vancouver.)
Yvonne is the student to whom we have become closest, during our year here in China. She will visit America during the summer of 2011, but we will not be back home yet!!! (Too bad!)
Yvonne won the speech competition for Senior One; speaks Japanese, English, Mandarin, and Chongqing dialect; and plans to work for the United Nations someday!
Enjoying a marvelous, traditional dinner in the home of Yvonne's parents and grandparents......
Like many Chinese families, their family's future rests with this ONE, most-important child!
