We crossed the Yangtze River on a colorfully-lighted bridge, and headed into a busy city
AT MIDNIGHT
on a Sunday night.
And, now we have a story to tell: Sixteen of us spent the rest of the night at a massage parlor! At midnight, Qing and her good friend, Xiao Lin, jumped out of two of the three cars in our caravan, and started trying to find rooms for all of us. They ran up and down the sidewalks of the "main drag" of the city, knocking on hotel or business doors. They asked everyone, flagged down taxis or other drivers of cars or motorcycles. With no luck, they got the bright idea of using Chris as the "poor, stranded, needs-a-place-to-stay, American tourist in their city." They presented Chris to a street-side police station/gazebo........... and it worked! The police started making some helpful phone calls, and a guy on a motorcycle came to lead us to a massage parlor with beds throughout. Classy little place. Then, for part of our $ 17 per person fee for the bed, massage girls came into our rooms, soaked our feet in wooden tubs of fragranced, hot water, and gave us full body massages. At 2:00 until 3:00 am! They were thorough, professional, and cheerful, and we tipped our girls very well! So nice!
